We’re a husband-and-wife team with a background in design and a shared love for unique, well-made objects. The name was inspired by an old cocktail napkin we stumbled upon years ago. It seemed like a perfectly reasonable name for a shop at the time, so we went with it.
We started the Tabu Shop in 2018 as a small collection of carefully sourced vintage kitchenware and barware. Then life happened, the shop went into a long hiatus, and in 2026 we decided to dust it off and give it another life.
Ceramics replaced kitchenware, and Google thinks we sell pastries and desserts. We love the randomness of it all and have decided not to correct it. Eventually, we’d like to make room for other handmade goods, but in the meantime, welcome to this little corner of the internet where an old cocktail napkin somehow became a ceramics shop.
Fay Ceramics
The wall vessels started with a very practical problem: I wanted flowers in my house, but also wanted to keep my cats safe from flowers that aren’t good for them. So I started making wall-mounted vessels that could keep the two happily separated. Of course, the idea took on a life of its own.
With a background in apparel and graphic design, I approach clay a little like fabric. I love folding, draping, layering, and playing with patterns and textures that mimic textiles. There are also little hints of my Middle Eastern background woven into the shapes, colors, and forms. I’m drawn to the visual language I grew up around, AND THE WORK IS A REFLECTION OF THAT.
The pieces are as sculptural as they are functional, meant to hold fresh or dried flowers, but equally enjoyable sans flowers. Every piece is hand-shaped and hand-glazed, so small variations are part of what makes each one special.
Curious about something specific, or looking for a piece that’s sold? Feel free to reach out. Custom orders are welcome and typically take 6–8 weeks.
